new hair!

i finally chopped off my long locks and traded them in for a short cut.
i figured that I would show it to you like this with my face all funny from photobooth, so that you could really focus on the hair :)

little mover

when we had returned from our trip from Michigan, we had then become proud parents of a crawler. Well, creeper, really. but she's not a creep.

this is something totally new, obviously. And I'm sure that it gives way to hours of more entertainment for her. I'm just not sure what. I think she might be a bit bored with the regular activities. "crawl here, Haddie" "crawl to that, Haddie".

Any fun activity ideas for a 6 month old? I'd love to hear them

there is something that comes over us whenever we enter the dance floor. something hugely and embarrassingly nerdy and weird. but we have fun :)

here's a recent project that I am working on.
It seems like so many of my friends that are getting married these days are interested in doing more of a fun "save the date" rather than a formal one.

so i'm working on this little guy, that will hopefully be in the shop soon!

dates

so here is the things about going out when you have a child.. you don't.
not that you can't get a sitter every once and a while, but let's face it, there is money involved there.

So Nate and i choose to be a bit creative when it comes to keeping things alive.
We have instated "living room dates." On any random day of the week one of us will announce "tonight is a living room date." Then throughout the day we will spend some time thinking about how we can make the night just a little more special than being on our computers and looking at Amy Poehler's face one more time.

This last night Nate decided it was a camp out night.
So we laid out the blankets down, looked at a night star app on the iphone (nerd alert!) and ate some strawberries and finished with a movie.

perfect end to a perfect day.

haddie in 30 years

i often think about what Haddie is going to be like when she grows up. What she's going to be like on her first day of kindergarten, what her first crush will be. But lately, I've been thinking about what she will be like when she's my age. What will she want to be be when she grows up?

I had a little bit too much fun imagining that today :)

secret ingredient to parenting

why didn't anyone fill me in on the secret ingredient of parenting?
COFFEE, i've never liked the stuff, could barely swallow it down, I just figured it wasn't worth the taste.

well, as a parent, it is WELL worth putting up with the taste.
one minute, I am laying beside Haddie, barely awake, using all of my energy to dangle a toy in front of her face.

I drink some coffee, and in the next minute I am having a dance party with her and getting big belly laughs.

i only drank half a cup.
oh boy, ladies and gents, we're in for a wild ride.

I love all things Abba...so clearly Mamma Mia is my favorite wedding movie! It reminds me of singing Abba songs everyday on a boat with my field research team in Australia while catching sharks (true story!). My field team will be joining me this fall to celebrate my wedding to my long-time lover and best friend. Yay! Maybe we'll dance to a few Abba songs at the reception...

i spend at least 20 minutes a day thinking about what kind of artwork that I want to create for Haddie's room. It's been 6 months now, and I still don't have anything up.
I think this one might be in the running.
it's something i want her to know. well one of the things.
she's loved and she's lovely, both inside and out.

so i made this print.

I don't know why, but for some reason lately I am really irked by the amount of women's faces on see on my computer screen lately all dolled up and looking their best, trying to show off their latest shirt or newest nail polish. I know, i know.. that stuff can be fun, but if I could, I would write little notes like this and stick it in those girl's lunchboxes from time to time, just to make sure they know.
Do you know what I mean?

Maybe I am just being crazy. I don't know.
but I do know that you are lovely.

branding

one of my favorite things about freelancing is creating branding or logos for my clients who run small businesses. i love to hear about what they do and put a fun and fresh logo into their little hands, which will (hopefully) bring them some more business and clients themselves.

aaannddd, just like that, we are back in Portland after our epic 3 week stay in the midwest for my lovely friend michelle's wedding. I will have LOTS of pics and things to say about the trip, but for now.. here are some shots I took at her wedding. she looked BEAUTIFUL.
