Entitlement

I don't know who this person is living inside of me lately. I've felt so chaotic, irritated, and.. well... dramatic. I have NOT been able to look on the bright side, which is sad, because I would say that is usually one of my greatest qualities.

I think I let myself become ungrateful, pretty ungrateful. I get so stuck in this state of mind that I am entitled to one thing or the other. I should be living the dream, so to speak. When in actuality where I am right now, is fine. Its more than fine, its blessed.

So I think tonight I will spend an evening focusing on how grateful I am. We are all so concerned in getting to this one "place", "if I could only do this, or, "if I could only be there." When all the while we are "home" we are present and we are alive. That in itself is enough for me. (atleast today) :) A man at my work sent this email today, about God's love and how he is so patient and kind to us. Here's a part I especially liked:

Love comes and sits with you when you’re feeling down and finds out what is wrong. It empathizes with you and believes in you. Love knows you’ll come through just as God planned, and love sticks right beside you all the way.

I hope you are able to see all of your blessings today. Love to you...

sweet nothings

Here's a little design I did earlier today. I've been trying to focus on making cards that have sweet simple sayings on them. Just something that you can send to a friend to let them know that you are thinking of them.
It's hard to break away from the same colors that I use every time. Its like I have a little computer in my brain that automatically inserts these colors into everything I make. Maybe someday I will venture into the world of earth tones? who knows...
Anyways, Happy Tuesday, its been a happy one for me :)

Doogie

Oh man, Nate and I cannot get enough of him these days. I mean I didn't have a clue what I was missing all those years that I was playing barbies instead of watching the hilarious antics between Vinny and Doogie.
You can watch free episodes on hulu... In fact, you better go watch one right now and report back.
On another note, I get a half day tomorrow at work, which means, more designing. My life has been SO crazy hectic as of late, and I can't wait to chill, watch some doogie, and create some stuff. Can life get an better? I think not.

Print crazy

Last night I attended a workshop on how to do yudu screen printing at the IPRC of Portland. I haven't really done much screen printing in the past, so i was interested in seeing what this class was all about.

Well.. I'm in love.

Screen printing has always intrigued me but I was always kinda over it, because i knew it took so long to make an actual screen to print off of. Not the story with yudu. While the instruction were as vague as it gets. The screen only took about an hour to make. Which means that after you make it, you can print with it to your hearts content. And better yet, I'm allowed to use the yudu, down at IPRC whenever I want. psh, for reals. Look at some sweet screen printed stuff i've found. All I'm saying is, that if you are a friend of mine, expect these as gifts.

Hoop Dreams

How much do I love this? Im obsessed with embroidery hoops, and have a few up in my apartment just as artwork. Some people think its cool, and well some think its weird. But I know that if I had this little beauty from miniature rhino ( pretty similar name to little buffalo if you think about it :) ) I know I would get some compliments.
---------
On another note, I just started a membership at Portland's own Independent Publisher's Resource Center. I'm pretty excited about it. I can take mucho classes for el cheapo :) And on top of that good news, a lady who goes to my church who makes a career of of her AMAZING artwork is going to meet with me for a coffee. How cool.

This Little Buffalo is happy

Bicycle Built for Two

Two of my lovely friends, Phil and Abbi are getting married next month. They asked me to create a wedding invitation for them that fit who they were as a couple. These two are the most adventurous/outdoorsy people I've ever met. I mean for goodness sake they met while working at REI, and their entire wedding party is going to be decked out in Patagonia.

So obviously a bicycle built for two fits them to the T. Did i mention that they will be moving to Nepal after their wedding?

A Toast to a Good Man

On Sunday afternoon, Nate's grandpa passed away. It's hard for us being so far from home during this time, and at times we feel as though we don't know how to grieve. Being so, we went last night to toast to his grandpa and reminisce.

We sat down, and as though it was normal... we bought three drinks, one for me, one for Nate, one for grandpa. We sat his grandpa's drink to the side (much to the waitress's confusion), and talked about all the good memories we had with him. The times he stuck toilet paper in our shoes to play a joke, or the great fishing trips that were had when Nate was a boy. It wasn't much, but it felt special, and real.

To lose a loved one is never easy, especially being 3000 miles away. But a part of me thinks that Nate's grandpa would have loved last night, actually I know he would have.

So here's to you, Manny. We love you.

Oh Baby!

So with the coming of three new little ones to our office in the Fall, I've had baby on my mind. Although DON'T get the wrong idea, no bun in this oven...

I just like to make things for those that do... So here's a little card for the mom/dad to be.

Why not?

So I used to say that blogging was just another way for people to disconnect from real life.

That was the old me, the real me, the 2009 me, sees that blogging really connects people. And then there is also the fact that I look at about a million blogs a day. Shows what I know, or what i knew then.

I know that this blog won't be a huge thing of my life, but I do want to be able to look back on all that happens and smile. who doesn't?

so keep checking up on my here, who knows, you might just like it
