Getting a little personal...

So I know that this blog is intended (by me) to be mostly design related. But brace yourselves here, I'm going to get a little personal. Mainly because I want to show you something that I've been working on this morning/afternoon.

I've never known my mom. At times it feels like no biggie, and at times it feels like a huge void is there. Something big that's missing and aches. She passed away when I was 3 mos old.

Thankfully though, my mother was a collector. In a way, I feel like she knew she would be gone before i would know her, so she collected everything, to show herself to her children. I now have in my possesion, every last letter, shoelace, birthday card and picture that she has ever received. It links me to her. It shows me her past. I am grateful.

However, all of these "memories" have just been sitting in my trunk, in my office, for a very long time. So today, as the rain poured down, I made this collage of her pictures below. Its the closest thing to spending time with her, that I've ever known.
Just wanted to share, to you.. whoever you are...
i promise that next post will be a bit lighter :)

Portland, You so Cute

I don't know if you realize this, but Portland is a beautiful place to live.

Sure, I mean, it has the mountains, the oceans, the trees, and all that.. a beautiful downtown. Don't get me wrong,
those are amazing and more beautiful that I could ever describe. But I also love to "smaller beautiful" that you can find here. Almost everywhere you look, there is something with character, something with a slight quirkiness that catches your eye.
Here, I'll show you..

and a few pictures could never show you nearly all of it.

Doodle Bug

My grandmother always used to call me doodle bug. She pretty much was the sole person who saw me off to school, and every morning she would yell out to me, "see you later doodlebug." Little did she know at that point that I would be spending a great part of my life doing just that... doodling.

So in honor of that memory, here are some of my "doodles."
Although I don't doodle on paper as much as I doodle on my handy dandy little macbook.

Me Wantie

How adorable are these little earrings from Joanna Rutter.
If anyone bought them for me, I would NOT be upset.
Happy Middle Day.

See Ya Summer...

As if it being September wasn't enough for me... I had to put a sweater on tonight as I took an evening stroll. Although, I'm not too upset, I think that this Summer was a good one, and I can't wait for the crunch of leaves, and the cozy feeling of Fall. So here's to you, Summer. You're a good friend that I hope to hang on to for just wee bit longer...

Vota Mi!

I don't know if you've heard me rattle off about this yet, but I stumbled upon this site called "Cards Ink". The basic deal of this site is that designers create images and upload them. Then people vote for which one is their fave. Then the site prints the "faves" into cards and in turn pays the designer. Genius, I say! Genius.... I don't know if it will ever work out, but I went ahead and threw one up there. why don't you pop here, and vote eh?

That would be nice...

And it would make me smile...

Something else that made me smile today:
